Sella Katirkamam is a shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha and the local river of gems – Manika Gangai is where many pilgrims come to take a holy dip to purify themselves of their sins. The river water is known to have therapeutic benefit due to its high gem content and the rich properties of the roots.
The BO tree behind the Kataragama temple is one of the eight samplings of Sri Mahabodhiya believed to be planted in the 3rd century BC. The Dagoba of Kiri Vehera holds a lot of spiritual importance for Sinhalese Buddhist.
