A hill country in the central province, Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful hill station in Srilanka that attracts many tourists. The City of light as it means has landscape that’s mesmerizing and temperature that’s temperate. Nuwara Eliya serves as an important area for tea plantation too.
Overlooking the city of Nuwara Eliya is the tallest mountain of Srilanka the Pidurutalagala. Nuwara Eliya was also called Little England back in the days and served as a place to retreat for British Colonialists who spent most of their time in hunting fox, deer, elephants and playing Golf, Polo and Cricket. Nuwara Eliya was founded by Samuel Baker and it became the most important sanctuary of The British Civil servants.
Several native and foreign travelers visit the city during April to watch the pony races, go cart races and auto rally along with the seasonal flowers blooming. To date the city has managed to contain the colonial style buildings- Queens cottage, Grand hotel, Hill Club and more.
